Automated Shipping Systems

Shipping is an important material handling system. For efficient material handling Cornerstone Automation Systems (CASI) is using automated material handling equipments throughout the shipping processes.

Shipping had always been a major concern for any manufacturer or distributor. It consists of various steps of scanning, weighing, cubing and labeling. Even thinking of performing all these steps manually is not less than a nightmare. Automated shipping systems reduce the involvement of manual labor thus make the task a bit easier. Cornerstone Automation (CASI) is producing both standard and custom shipping systems as per the requirements.

In a typical shipping system the cartons are first placed upright manually or by an automatic case erector on the conveyor. Then a printer places a shipping label having License Plate Number (LPN) etc on it. Label confirmation barcode scanner then confirms proper label placement and detects any printing mistakes by scanning the barcode. If the label does not exist, the cartons are either diverted, or the system may also be set up to stop operation. If the label is confirmed, the cartons are send to the check weigh system where their weights are checked automatically. After weight, comes the turn of printing and labeling. Then verification of barcode, label and weight attached to individual carton is done. If it incorrect, they are rejected and if it is correct they are sorted accordingly.

Simply, if a concern is shipping a large number of cartons per day, automation is the only way to have maximum output in minimum time
