Zimmer Durom Hip Joint Replacement Cup Loosening
Zimmer a multinational joint replacement device manufacturer introduced a hip cup for young and active patients who required a hip replacement surgery. Now the problem arose when a number of patients experienced loosening of their Durom cup and some of them had to undergo a revision surgery to correct their failed Durom implant. Initially the manufacturer blamed the surgeons for the issues on Zimmer Durom cup.
While searching for the reason of failure, renowned surgeons found that, the design of the cup was faulty and that surgical technique was not to be blamed for it. It was also further discovered that, when the edge of the hip cup was hit, it would just come out with a pop which is not a good sign at all. With passing time, cups develop radiolucent lines and showed movement from the original place thus proving the loosening of the cup. There was a round cutting surface on the outline of the cup that prevents it from firm attachment to the hip bone. All these evidences suggested that the cup geometry was the sole reason for the failed surgery.
Following complaints from patients, a durom lawsuit was lead by Durom lawyer on their behalf.
